Sri Lanka:

Island nation off the southern coast of Tamil Nadu. Diverse population with major social groups:
Sinhala-speakers (74%)
Tamil-speakers (18%)
Among Tamils, there are two sub-groups: Sri Lankan Tamils (13%) and Indian Tamils (5%)
Sri Lankan Tamils are concentrated in the north and east of the country. Most of the Sinhala-speaking people are Buddhists, while most of the Tamils are Hindus or Muslims. About 7% Christians, who are both Tamil and Sinhala. The Sinhala community enjoyed a majority and could impose its will on the entire country
