Why awadh was regarded as a Cherry?

Awadh was regarded as a "cherry" by Governor General Lord Dalhousie in 1851 because 1. it was a region of great wealth and importance, with fertile soil for 2. producing indigo and cotton. It was situated at a strategic location for trade. 3. The British had already conquered many other major areas of India, and Awadh was seen as the last piece of the puzzle to complete their territorial expansion - Like a cherry over the cake to give it a final touch. 4. With its annexation, the British could gain control over a region that was ideal for their economic interests and provide them with greater access to the markets of Upper India. Thus, the reference to Awadh as a "cherry" is a metaphor for the region being a valuable prize that would drop when ripe, easily into the British Empire's grasp.
