The replacement model, proposed by Christopher Stringer and Peter Andrews and further developed by Rebecca Cann is based on Genetic studies and fossil evidence, show that –
Archaic Homo sapiens evolved to anatomically modern humans solely in Africa between 200,000 and 60,000 years ago.
One branch of Homo sapiens left Africa at some point between 125,000 and 60,000 years ago.
Over a period of time, these humans replaced other populations of Homo such as Neanderthals and Homo erectus which were already present in these regions.
Rebecca Cann argued that the geographic region in which modern people have lived the longest should have the greatest amount of genetic diversity today. Through comparisons of mitochondrial DNA sequences from living people throughout the world, she concluded that Africa has the greatest genetic diversity and, therefore, must be the homeland of all modern humans.
